Dalyan is located between Marmaris and Fethiye on the south-west coast of Turkey, not far from Rhodes. The town is situated along the banks of the river Calibis. The river estuary and beach is 2.5 miles away by boat from the waterfront. This beach (known as Turtle Beach) is a 6km spit of golden sand that seperates the lagoon from the sea, a panoramic example of Aegean and Mediterranean coastline.

Alternatively, Iztuzu Bay (left) can be reached by bus from the centre of Dalyan, a journey over the mountains, then down to the sea. There is also 15 miles of sandy beach at Sarigerme, available by bus, car or taxi from Dalyan. There are local hot springs and mud baths famed for medicinal purposes. Some of these are now housed to provide a private thermal bath. They can be visited from one of the many boats leaving upriver from the Dalyan waterfront for the freshwater Lake Koycegiz.
