After the victory of the Greeks over the Persians in Plataia in 479 BC, they chose to join the "Delian League" established in 478 BC. With the "King's Truce" between Persians and Greeks in 387 BC, Caunos again went under the control of Persians, was integrated to the Carian Satrapy, and became a Carian city.

After Alexander's conquest, like all other Carian cities, Caunos was submitted to the control of Ada, sister of Maussollos. The city was invaded by Antigonos in 313 BC, and until the beginning of 2nd century BC, when it came under the rule of the Ptolemaic Kingdom, it was ruled by Seleucid and the Ptolemaic Kingdom alternately.
